Débora Baruzzi Brandão’s career has been shaped by creativity and technical expertise since a young age. Her work spans cities in Brazil and the USA, and her journey has taken her from luxury interior design to a unique focus on equestrian design. In 2008, she became a businesswoman in the luxury market, specializing in interior design. After branching out into various therapeutic specializations, she returned to the horse world with a pioneering approach: incorporating equestrian design into her practice. Notably, she is the only professional in Brazil specializing in Paddock Paradise trail tracks projects, which replicate horses’ natural habitats. Débora’s brand identity reflects a singular story, aiming to enhance the well-being of both horses and their owners in their living spaces.

1973

Débora comes from a family with a deep passion for horses. Her lineage includes her father, grandmother, and even her paternal great-grandfather, General Miguel Costa, who led the historic longest mounted march in Brazil during the 1924 Revolution.

Débora’s fondest memories involve horses, including accompanying her father to the São Paulo Jockey Club with his English thoroughbreds.

From her father, she inherited her professional drive and technical skills, while her mother instilled in her a love for languages, writing, and the Italian flair that shines through in her designs.

Débora’s artistic talents emerged early. At the age 15, she honed her skills in fashion design, sewing, and modeling at the renowned Sigbol school. Her work included creating statement dresses and original pieces, which led to her first job in the commercial area of a major Brazilian fashion brand.

Inspired by a fashion show at FAAP, 19-year-old Débora Baruzzi Brandão fulfilled her dream by enrolling in the prestigious School of Fine Arts at Fundação Armando Álvarez Penteado University in São Paulo.

To further explore her artistic horizons, Débora delved into the world of textures and marbling at ESAC school. This course focused on restoration and painting techniques, including trompe l’oeil, a method frequently used in palaces decorations and scenography.

Débora thrived in a demanding environment, balancing her studies at college with a successful career at Zona D, a renowned design store in São Paulo, Brazil. Her talent was recognized early on as she received awards for best salesperson. By the age of 21, her impressive performance led to a promotion to branch manager at the newly opened Shopping de Design e Decoração D&D in São Paulo.

Débora’s specialization in Industrial Design opened doors to impactful internships. Her journey began at UND Corporate Design, a prestigious firm serving major consumer goods brands. She then landed a diverse role at Alice Carta Promoções e Eventos, contributing to: The launch of Brazil’s first Blockbuster, alongside with Hollywood celebrities. The São Paulo production of the grand Opera Aida. The launch of the Outeiro das Brisas real estate development in Bahia.
These experiences provided Débora with a well-rounded foundation in design across various industries.

This accomplishment earned her a degree in Product Design | Industrial Design from the prestigious School of Fine Arts at FAAP in São Paulo. Débora then transitioned into professional design projects.

In early 1997, Débora opted to move to California to complement her language studies, despite a great job offer for a major furniture design company in São Paulo.

Within a week of her arrival, she was invited to a position at Colors Too Custom Furniture, a wooden furniture store in Manhattan Beach, South Bay Area of Los Angeles. However, just two months later, she seized the opportunity to design furniture for Hollywood celebrities in this trendy store in Manhattan Beach.

Determined to pursue a career in Interior Design, Débora returned to Brazil and enrolled in Centro Nobel de Artes, one of São Paulo’s most respected technical schools at the time.

As part of ITAARTE’s commercial advisory team, Débora assisted in specifying ornamental stones for a select group of architectural and engineering offices in São Paulo.

Balancing work and studies, Débora participated in internship programs at GOBBI Paisagismo and Marcelo Bellotto’s office. She contributed to landscaping design projects also monitoring work, transplants, demarcations, and plantings.

In the same year that she graduated from the prestigious Centro Nobel de Artes technical school in São Paulo, Débora’s work “Zen Bathroom with Ofurô” was selected for exhibition at the 5th Mostra do conceituado Concurso Deca, a competition organized by participating Interior Design schools.

Demonstrating her multifaceted talents, Débora also delved into landscaping studies in 2000, taking courses in “Residential Gardens, Small and Large Spaces” at the PMSP Gardening School and “New Visions of Burle Marx’s Landscape” at ABAP.

With a keen interest in jewelry, Débora pursued a hobby in jewelry design and making, enrolling in the “Jewelry Goldsmithing | Design and Making” course at Ricardo Castelani’s Atelier in Santo André.

Leveraging her expertise, in the past years, Débora contributed to renowned architecture and interior design firms in São Paulo. She developed projects, oversaw construction, and managed project and construction teams for luxury residential, commercial, and corporate clients.

She provided technical and commercial support to clients and professionals in the luxury market. In subsequent years, she trained Artefacto store collaborators on product knowledge, manufacturing methods, administrative procedures, and sales.

Débora joined João Armentano Architecture, a renowned architecture and interior design firm, as part of their Decoration team. She coordinated luxury residential, exhibitions, and commercial projects.

Seeking to deepen her understanding of human well-being, Débora enrolled in the Transpersonal Psychoanalysis course at the Brazilian Institute of Transpsychanalysis. This pursuit complemented her knowledge of therapeutic modalities like chromotherapy and ancient wellness techniques.

Débora established her signature “Quiet Luxury” style, characterized by timeless elegance, meticulous planning, and rich detailing. She began incorporating integrative techniques and therapies into her work, always striving to promote spaces that enhance health and well-being.

Partnering with her landscape architect brother, Douglas Brandão, she founded DB Paisagismo, specializing in both interior and exterior design projects.

Débora was invited to showcase her “Master Bathroom” design at the Casa Clássica Mostra, hosted by renowned São Paulo antique dealer Ravioli Casa.

Débora received several special invitations, including: Participating in the Artefacto Mostra at the D&D shopping mall, designing the “Collector’s Bedroom” in the store’s window display. Writing the “Bem Estar” column for 2 years in the Estação Notícia newspaper of ABC Paulista. Giving lectures at various events, such as the meditative talk “Florescendo o Ser”.

Returning to her equestrian roots after a break in France, Débora delved into the world of horses and began her Equine Therapy training at the PMESP Mounted Police Regiment. At the same location, the Military Police Museum, she reviewed the story of her great-grandfather.

With the pandemic causing construction projects to halt, Débora seized the opportunity to complete her certifications in Equine Therapy at ANDE-BR, Hippotherapy with Dr. Fernando Guimarães, Horsemanship at Conexão Equestre, and Dressage Steward through the CBH – Brazilian Equestrian Confederation.

Subtly incorporating the elegance of the equestrian world into her “Quiet Luxury” and “Sense Design” projects, Débora once again pioneered with the introduction of Equestrian Design.

To reflect this new direction, she established a fresh visual identity for her company, featuring a branch and a heart icons forming a mandala and the slogan “Florescendo o Ser” (Flowering the Being), encapsulating the mission of her work.

Débora pre-launched the digital book “Cercas para Cavalos” (Fences for Horses), focusing on animal welfare. She shared her extensive research on the topic, covering paddocks, Paddock Paradise, toxic plants, and technical recommendations for equine healthy living.

Débora founded the PADDOCK PARADISE BRASIL Group and Instagram account to share her research and contributions, gleaned from her involvement in groups in the US, Australia, the UK, and Europe.

Her unique knowledge in promoting equine well-being quickly gained recognition, leading to an invitation to speak at the II Simpósio Equus Mulher – UniPampa, where she presented on the topic of “Equestrian Projects that Generate Health and Well-being”. She also delivered lectures for courses and gave interviews to equestrian media.

With the pandemic still ongoing, Débora decided to deepen her therapeutic expertise by enrolling in the Psychology program at the renowned Fundação Santo André university.

Débora completed her postgraduate studies, specializing in Equine Therapy (Latu-Sensu) from the esteemed Fundação Rancho GG in partnership with UNIFAAT.

In the same year, she received her training certificate from ANIRE, the Italian National Association of Equestrian Rehabilitation, in partnership with RPMont da PMESP.

Now firmly established in Equestrian Design as well, Débora’s Paddock Paradise Circuit Designs have become her signature style and her market differentiator for promoting equine health and wellness.
